Hi Everybody,
Just when you were getting over your “Blue State” depression, something
else to be blue about – it’s tax time.
That’s right, it’s that time of the year when all the “Blues” and
“Reds” join together to slog through that quagmire of gray known
as the Internal Revenue Tax Code. And thanks to a little (well,
maybe a lot of) election year politicking, that Tax Code just got
thicker. Our worrisome incumbents stuffed our stockings with two
new tax laws this year. No tax simplification this year.
So to help you out of any holiday disarray and to make sure you
don’t miss any of the goodies doled out in those new tax laws, we’ll
be e-mailing you your 2004 Tax Organizers in a
few days. The Organizer package comes with full instructions for
opening and completing the necessary forms. It also includes all
your 2003 tax data, which can be used as a guideline for collecting
the appropriate 2004 information.
When you’ve completed the Organizer, you can simply e-mail it back
to us. Any support documents like W2’s and 1099’s, must be mailed,
faxed or brought to us in person. If this “cyber” alternative doesn’t
work for you, please let us know and we will be happy to send you
a Tax Organizer in the traditional manner.
On another tax note, the Mass Department of Revenue is mandating
that all tax preparers that process over 100 tax returns (we do)
need to file their State tax returns electronically, starting this
year. A client can opt-out of electronic filing by having a written
letter on file with our office, requesting a paper filing.
I’m sure in the near future everyone will be required to file both
Federal and State tax returns electronically. In anticipation of
that day, we will make an attempt to file all Federal and State
tax returns electronically this year. If you have any objections
to this please let us know.
As always, if you have any questions please give us a call, 978-256-1323.
Good Luck and Happy New Year,
Jim
